Exploring the Ecology of the lichens

A research group from the Complutense University of Madrid focused on plant ecology and ecophysiology in extreme environments, mainly the antarctic

Who we are

The Lichen Ecology group is part of the Department of Pharmacology Pharmacognosy and Botany in the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Complutense University of Madrid.

We explore the ecology and diversity of alpine, polar antarctic and semiarid lichens, mosses and plants from a taxonomic, functional, ecophysiological and molecular perspective. We have a considerable experience in the use of advanced gas exchange and fluorescence systems for measuring photosynthesis. Since 2005 we collaborate with the European Space Agency in different exobiology experiments with lichens.
